Early Positions:

Sheikh Jabir ALAhmed ALJabir ALSabah was the son of Kuwait’s 11th ruler, Hiss Highness, the late, Sheikh Ahmed ALJabir ALSabah. He was born in Kuwait city in the year 1928. his education was spread among three schools: ALMubarakeya, ALAhmedeya, and ALSharqeya. Nevertheless, private tutoring by specialists along with courses attended abroad where emphasized by his father to expand his knowledge beyond the boundaries and limitations of Kuwait’s schools at that time.

At the age of 21, Sheikh Jabir ALSabah took his first steps into a prosperous career. He was assigned by his father as Mayor, (Chief of Public Security) of one of Kuwait’s most critical districts, ALAhmedi.

Sheikh Jabir’s father passed away one year later, and when Sheikh Abdullah ALSalem ALSalem ALSabah, the 11th ruler of Kuwait, ascended to the thrown, he noticed Sheikh Jabir ALSabah’s potential as a leader and pioneer in the political arena. With time, he was assigned more responsibilities and political positions along with ALAhmedi district.

Head of finance department

In 1959, Sheikh Jabir was appointed Head of The Finance Department. His thorough knowledge of the oil industry, gained from his interaction with oil companies operating in Kuwait’s largest oil-driven district (ALAhmedi), along with extensive administrative experience, made sheikh Jabir the best candidate for that position. 

First Ministerial Position

Upon the independence of Kuwait in 1961, the first Kuwaiti government was formed, and among the ministers assigned back then was Sheikh Jabir ALAhmed ALJabir ALSabah as the first Minister of Finance. Moreover, his administrative effectiveness and leadership has brought him forward to fill the position of Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister at the age of 34.

Some of the numerous contributions of Sheikh Jabir ALSabah to Kuwait’s economy when he was assigned his first ministerial position include:

  • The establishment of credit bank
  • The establishment of the Kuwait Currency Board
  • The establishment of the Kuwait Reserve Fund for Future Generations
  • The establishment of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development
