Sunday January 15, 2006
was a sad day to all Kuwaitis, the Arab and Islamic Nations;
it was the day Sheikh Jabir ALAhmed ALJabir ALSabah has left
this earth to a better place next to his creator.
The sadness that
overwhelmed those nations was due to Sheikh Jabir's
endless contributions to all of them. Upon those contributions,
one can only lists some, and on top of that list, two major
contributions, which he was their pioneer, come to mind:
The Gulf Countries
Council (GCC)
On 1976 Sheikh Jabir
ALAhmed ALJabir ALSabah, who was Kuwait’s Prime Minister at
that time, started to tour the Arabian Gulf Countries with a
vision. That vision was to form a council consisting of
members of those countries in order to unite them against any future threats
or challenges, such as economical, financial, strategic and social
ones. As his vision was crafted by all possible members of the
anticipated council, it was later put into action and the
first meeting took place in Abu Dhabi the capital of United
Arab Emirates, upon the formation of that council
The Palestinian
Support Fund
In an initial act of
support to the Palestinian case against the Israeli
occupation, Kuwait, headed by its Prime Minister Sheikh Jabir ALSabah, formed a
dedicated supporting reserve for that case which fed
on 5 percent of all public and private sector employees’
salaries. Moreover, Kuwait was known to be the country with
the highest percentage of Palestinian residents and the
strongest supporter for their case.
The late Sheikh’s
Funeral was attended by most of the Arab and Islamic
leaders, and among them were a numerous number of leaders of
international allied countries. That effort taken by such
important international characters can only represent the appreciation
their countries had and still have to this small one
named Kuwait. an appreciation that was the result of
continuous efforts by Kuwait's administration headed by
the late Amir.
On the local level, thousands of Kuwaitis
and residents spread along
Kuwaiti streets to pay their final respects to the late Amir.
The eyes of all Kuwaiti youths, adults and seniors, who have
attended the funeral or met the convoy on the streets, were
filled with tears; tears of honest greave to who was once a
father first and a caring leader second for all of them.
As a Kuwaiti myself, I
have nothing but complete faith in the descending
administration and Amir, yet I find it close to impossible
to forget the flourishing years I, along with all other
Kuwaiti’s who lived in Sheikh Jabir’s era, have enjoyed, and/or
to forget the man who made such time possible.
