This course is a continuation of MA003. Topics include exponents and polynomials, factoring, algebraic fractions, radicals, quadratic equations, fractional exponents. A library component will be included. May not be taken for credit if MA107, MA109, M110, or MA121 has been completed.

Covers coordinate systems and graphs, matrices, linear systems and applications, elementary linear programming, set theory, counting techniques, permutations and combinations, introduction to probability, and the mathematics of finance. Emphasis is placed on techniques and applications. Not open to science or engineering students. Prerequisite: MTH 002 or Math Placement Test or SAT II Math 1C test with score 600 and above.

Covers the derivative, rules for differentiation and their applications, definite and indefinite integrals, methods of integration and applications, functions of more than one variable, partial differentiation and applications to optimization. Emphasis is placed on techniques and applications. Not open to science or engineering students. Prerequisite: MTH 101.

College Algebra

 

 

Prerequisite: A satisfactory score on the university's mathematics placement examination, obtained in the six months prior to enrollment in this course. Course topics will include algebra and probability, polynomial functions, the binomial theorem, logarithms, exponentials, and solutions to systems of equations.

Basic Calculus

 

 

Prerequisite: MATH 1030 or a satisfactory score on the university's proficiency examination. This course provides an introduction to plane analytic geometry and basic differential and integral calculus with applications to various areas. No credit for Mathematics majors. Credit cannot be granted for both MATH 1100 and 1800.
